Whatever plastic surgery procedure you are considering, it’s important to ask yourself whether or not it’s the right time to have it done. If you have a special event coming up (like a wedding or a high school reunion), be sure to ask your plastic surgeon about typical healing times and what to expect in the weeks and months after your surgery. You’ll want to make sure that your incisions are healed properly and that all of the swelling has gone down in time for your special day.
A specific “timing” question that we often get from patients is concerning the “Mommy Makeover” procedure. If you are planning on having more children, then the timing would not be right for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), which is part of the Mommy Makeover. It’s best to wait until you are sure that you do not want to have any more children, so that the tummy tuck results will last.
Part of the Mommy Makeover may also include a breast enhancement procedure, which shouldn’t be done until at least three months after the patient has stopped nursing. With Mommy Makeovers and any surgery, you’ll want to make sure that you have some help in the home because you will not be able to lift anything heavier than 5 pounds for 4 weeks post surgery.
