Liposuction- Is It Right for Me?
Got belly fat? Liposuction removes unwanted fat from the body, especially if you have specific problem areas. Small incisions are made near the treatment area and a thin cannula is inserted. Suction is used to suck out fat cells, permanently removing them from the body. Liposuction can shape and contour your trouble spots. We love using it to remove unwanted fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, knees, and under the chin. Liposuction isn’t for weight loss but works well on those stubborn pockets of fat that remain after you’ve lost weight. Liposuction only removes fat, not skin. It works best on patients with good skin quality.
Liposuction may be right for you if:
- You have isolated fat pockets that won’t budge.
- You have tight, elastic skin.
- You want to treat the abdomen or other areas on the body.
Liposuction results are immediate and continue to improve as swelling goes down. We recommend coming in for treatment as soon as possible if you want to enjoy results this summer. Most of your swelling will resolve in 6-8 weeks, but some residual swelling can remain. The sooner you come in, the better your results will look by summer.
If you have some sagging and fat, you may be a candidate for our SkinTite treatment, a revolutionary procedure that combines liposuction and radio-frequency skin tightening.
Tummy Tuck- Is It Right for Me?
Weight loss, aging, and pregnancy take a toll on the tummy. Many women complain about loose skin and stretch marks on the abdomen. Liposuction only removes fat. If you have loose skin, you may need a different treatment to get your desired results. Enter the tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck reforms the abdomen. A long incision is made, extending from hip to hip. Don’t worry this incision is low and won’t be seen when you’re wearing clothing; even a bikini bottom will cover it. Excess skin and fat are removed. The abdominal muscles are tightened and repaired. Then the area is stitched back together. After you heal, your stomach will be tighter and flatter. Many women find they have fewer stretch marks, especially those that were below the belly button, since we remove skin and the accompanying stretch marks during surgery.
A tummy tuck may be right for you if:
- You have loose skin in the abdominal area.
- You’ve lost a significant amount of weight or have been pregnant.
- You have diminished skin quality on the abdomen.
- You want a tighter, flatter tummy.
A tummy tuck is an invasive surgical procedure and will require a recovery period. We recommend coming in as soon as possible if you want to enjoy your results this summer. Most patients are back to work in about 2 weeks and fully healed after 6 weeks. Scars and incisions do take time to fade. This first summer, you’ll need to protect your scars from the sun as they will be dark and highly susceptible to sun damage. The good news is, most scars are hidden below the bikini line. A one-piece swimsuit may be needed this summer if an incision is used around the belly button.
Tummy Tuck or Liposuction- Do I Need Both?
In life, and in plastic surgery, some things are better together, wine and chocolate, bubbles and a bath, sunsets and the beach, and tummy tucks and liposuction. While these two procedures create stunning results on their own, they are even better when paired together. A tummy tuck can remove loose skin while liposuction can get rid of fat. Drop sizes and discover smoother, tighter contours with a tummy tuck and liposuction combination.
We love combining treatments because it allows our patients to maximize their results and minimize downtime. You’ll recover from both liposuction and tummy tuck surgery together. This means less time off work for the same great results.
Which treatment is best for you?
- If you have a little stubborn fat, and good skin quality- Choose liposuction alone to enhance your summer body.
- If your biggest problem area is the abdomen- Choose a tummy tuck to tighten up loose skin, remove excess fat, and repair abdominal muscles.
- If you want to enhance the tummy and other areas- Choose liposuction and a tummy tuck.
- If you have some skin laxity and belly fat- Choose SkinTite, a combination of liposuction and radio-frequency.
