What Is Fat Grafting?
Fat grafting is a revolutionary way to add volume and enhance contours. Rather than using synthetic fillers or silicone implants, fat grafting uses the body’s own fat supply to fill and shape those areas with a lack of volume. The transferred fat will establish a blood supply in its new location and should remain in place indefinitely. Results are lasting and since your own tissue is used, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction.
Fat grafting, also called autologous fat transfer, is a two-part procedure. First, we perform liposuction to harvest fat cells for transfer. This is typically performed in an area with excess fat like the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs. This fat is cleaned, prepared, and placed into syringes. Then it is transferred to the target area using a series of injections. The fat is commonly used to enhance the buttocks (in which case the procedure is called the “Brazilian Butt Lift”) or as a semi-permanent filler for the face.
What’s Recovery Like After Fat Grafting?
Downtime is minimal after fat transfer. Most patients can resume light activities after just one day. You can return to full activity in about 3-5 days. Many patients miss less than a week from work. Is Fat Grafting Permanent?
Fat grafting provides long-lasting results. Some of the fat may die off, especially in the first days after treatment. Once you’ve recovered, much of the remaining fat will stay, often permanently.
