Many people may have a lot of time off during the holiday season, but why is it important to think about the climate and other seasonal changes i.e., cold weather when pursuing a procedure?
Other than exposure to extremes in climate, seasonal changes really have no detrimental effects on surgical outcomes. One would not want to be exposed to prolonged cold temperatures after many of the plastic surgical procedures that are performed. However, perspiration from exposure to warm climates may also affect the healing process early in the post-operative recovery period. In the Chicago area, more surgery seems to be done during the cooler winter months than the summer. This is because most residents value the warmer months and do not want the downtime after a surgical procedure during that time of the year.
