The most recent dermal filler on the market today is called Voluma XC and it’s the first and only filler in years to get FDA approval to treat age-related volume loss in the mid face. Only a handful of doctors in the Chicago area have been selected to offer this innovative facial filler, and board certified plastic surgeon, Michael A. Epstein, is one of them.
“Voluma XC, now available in Chicago, is the first new product in a very long time that can approximate many of the attributes of a facelift,” says Epstein. “As we age, both soft tissue and bone resorb or dissipate. Additionally, the overlying soft tissue loses some of its elastic properties. This accounts for the sagging tired appearance of aging skin.
“We can use Voluma XC to lift it right back up and restore that youthful volume.”
Dr. Epstein says the biggest bonus of the filler is that it lasts up to two years, which is up to three times longer than other fillers. Best of all, patients can see results instantly!
Loss of volume in the cheeks leads to sagging skin and an aged, hollow appearance, explains Epstein. This “liquid facelift” actually restores lost volume to the mid face area, particularly the cheek region, where volume becomes depleted during the aging process.
Voluma XC is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar that is present in the body which is biodegradable and safe. Another unique feature of the new injectable filler is the added numbing agent called lidocaine, making the treatment nearly pain-free and eliminating the necessity for additional anesthesia.
Although Voluma XC costs about 30 percent more than other fillers, it has been clinically proven to last up to two years. This in turn can save patients money by not having to visit a plastic surgeon as often.
“This new addition to our filler menu gives many patients who are not yet ready to commit to a surgical facelift another, non-invasive, option,” says Epstein. “There is very little downtime, and virtually no swelling.”
Dr. Epstein and his three nurse injectors have all completed Allergan’s “Master Course” training, which is required for all doctors and nurses administering Voluma XC.
