While there are many great anti-aging treatments on the market, such as fillers, botox, and surgical facelifts, almost none of them harness the remarkable healing powers of your own body. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, aims to do just that.
PRP has been used to deliver a variety of amazing results. Because of its incredible healing properties, doctors often use PRP to promote faster healing after surgery. PRP is also becoming increasingly popular in the cosmetic field and is now a highly effective facial rejuvenation option.
Dr. Michael Epstein, a board-certified plastic surgeon, is excited to offer this cutting-edge non-surgical anti-aging option for his patients in the Chicago area. To learn more about the fantastic benefits of PRP, or any of the other services offered at MAE Plastic Surgery, call our office at 847-205-1680 or schedule a consultation online today!
What is PRP, and How Does it Work?
PRP is one of the most innovative procedures in the industry. A growing number of patients choose to get PRP injections, or to pair it with microneedling, to promote enhanced skin rejuvenation.
Unlike other injectable treatments, PRP is derived from your own blood. After we draw a small amount of your blood, we will run the sample through a specialized device called a centrifuge. The centrifuge will separate the different substances in your blood, providing us with the platelet-rich plasma that we need for your treatment. PRP contains concentrated growth factors which enhance healing up to three times more than without it.
Benefits of PRP
PRP aims to give patients totally natural, long-lasting facial revitalization.
When we inject PRP into your face, it can:
- stimulate collagen & elastin, natural substances needed for facial rejuvenation
- thicken and tighten your skin
- smooth wrinkles and fine lines
- improve skin tone and texture
PRP is also a highly unique option, in that:
- it is totally natural
- it is non-invasive
- treatments sessions and recovery time are very short
- results are long-lasting
PRP with Microneedling
Many of our patients choose to combine microneedling with PRP to enhance their results. Microneedling, which makes tiny punctures in your facial skin, is another way to generate collagen and elastin. When we add PRP to your face’s surface immediately after a microneedling session, your body will absorb the PRP, which can augment the healing process even more.
Not only will PRP speed up your recovery after a microneedling treatment, but it also produces enhanced results due to your own growth factors being redistributed into the microchannels caused by the typical microneedling treatment. Patients can expect up to 30% better and longer lasting results.

PRP FAQ
How long does it take to see PRP results?
Your results will be fully kicked in by 3 months, but you’ll start seeing improvement in about 1 month.
How long do results last with PRP?
While PRP may take a few weeks to show any results, patients often enjoy enduring results. You can expect your results to last up to 18 months after a procedure.
Is PRP Safe?
PRP is totally safe, primarily because it is made from your own blood! There is virtually no chance of having an allergic reaction or your body rejecting PRP.
Should I inject PRP, or choose PRP with microneedling?
Both of these options provide patients with many incredible benefits. Your specific aesthetic goals and your conversation with our staff can help you determine which procedure is right for you.
How long will a PRP treatment take?
Your appointment to obtain PRP and separate blood will only take around 15 minutes, and it takes roughly five minutes to separate the PRP from your blood sample. If you are only getting injections, the treatment will not take very long after the PRP is ready. Microneedling treatments will also not take any additional time when we add PRP.
